Michael Zukerman

Michael Zukerman is a Managing Director and CEO of Whitestone Realty Capital, LLC. (WRC).  WRC is a developer and real estate investment banking firm.  As a developer, WRC is developing the following projects which all will be Leeds certified; (1) 9 senior housing projects, one of which is in a historic building (2) 7 different mixed use projects 6 of which are historic; (3)  2 hotels, one of which is historic and 3 work force single family housing projects. Most of these projects will use geothermal energy and solar hot water.  As a real estate investment banker, WRC provides mortgage brokerage services in which they raise first mortgage debt; equity and mezzanine debt. WRC has offices in New York, Boston, South Florida and North Carolina.

Mr. Zukerman has been a practicing attorney specializing in real estate and securities since 1967.  He was Managing Partner of the New York office of Baskin & Sears from 1979-1985. He is presently “of counsel” to Warshaw Burstein Cohen Schlesinger and Kuh LLP.   Mr. Zukerman is also an adjunct professor at NYU Schack Real Estate Institute teaching graduate students a course called the Development Process for the last 3 years.

Some more noteworthy transactions Mr. Zukerman has been involved in include arranging the first $140,000,000 securitized mortgage-backed financing ever completed without credit enhancement in 1991 together with a “follow on” transaction for the same company of similar size in 1993; closing the first $127,000,000 conduit financing ever completed in 1992; acting as financial advisor to a REIT in 1993 ($90 million of equity); coordinating the merger of a shopping center owner operator into a mortgage REIT and creating a large equity REIT that had a capitalization of over $700,000,000 when it was sold; and arranging $200,000,000 financing for an acquirer of environmentally distressed assets. Mr. Zukerman has recently been involved in two large hotel transactions in New York City one for $300,000,000 and a second one for $510,000,000.

Mr. Zukerman has been a partner in various entities with, a large shopping center and real estate owner/operator. He has previously co-developed two shopping centers in Long Island, NY, residential condominiums, the development of a large commercial tract in Indianapolis In, and two discount department stores in New York and Indianapolis.  He has written many articles for trade and real estate publications. Most recently, he wrote articles on mezzanine financing and equity financing, financing with HUD, an explanation of opportunistic and value added financing, explanation of historic tax credits, new market tax credits and low income housing tax credits in Scotsman Guide
